Specchio Specchio delle mie brame... Chi è la più bella del reame?

Ricordo vagamente la prima volta che andai al cinema... Avevo qualche anno, mia mamma mi portò in centro  a vedere Biancaneve e i Sette Nani, il primo cartone della Walt-Disney. Ricordo il cinema sotto i portici (che ora non esiste più), la tenda di velluto scuro, la sala buia... E poi Lei: la strega cattiva. Rivedo il primo piano di Grimilde, quando si trasforma in un brutta vecchia... Urlai dalla paura!!! Non ricordo se uscimmo prima della fine del film, mia mamma probabilmente mi portò fuori imbarazzata ... xD

I vaguely remember the first time I went to the cinema... I had a few years, my mother took me downtown to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Walt-Disney's first cartoon. I remember the cinema in the arcades (which no longer exists), the velvet curtain, the dark room... And then her: the wicked witch. I can see the close face of Grimilde, when it turns into a nasty old lady... I screamed in fear!!! I don't remember if we went out before the end of the movie, my mom probably took me out embarrassed ... xD

Un Dolce Vizio.

Dopo le famose Cupcake di Magolia Bakery, un altro posto nel West Village sta diventando famoso per i suoi dolci... in particolare, per i suoi tiramisù. Si tratta di "Dolce Vizio", un luogo interamente dedicato a questo dolce simbolo della tradizione italiana. I proprietari sono due ragazzi che si sono trasferiti proprio da Bergamo, la mia città, nella Grande Mela. Nadia e Alessandro hanno maturato questa decisione l'anno scorso davanti ad un tiramisù in un locale di Roma. Complice un master MBA alla Columbia di Alessandro, hanno pensato di aprire un locale interamente dedicato a questo dessert, non solo nella sua versione classica, ma sperimentando infinite combinazioni. I gusti principali infatti sono sei e prevedono frutta, liquore, cioccolato, caffè... Ma è anche possibile "costruire" da soli il proprio tiramisù: scegliendo tra diversi ingredienti ognuno può sperimentare e scegliere l'abbinamento preferito. Ovviamente accompagnando il dessert con quello che posso davvero definire un vero caffè espresso (e a NY non è cosa da poco).

After the famous Magnolia Bakery's Cupcakes, another place in the West Village is becoming famous for its desserts... in particular, for its tiramisù. This is "Dolce Vizio", a place entirely dedicated to this sweet symbol of the Italian tradition. The owners are two guys who just moved from Bergamo, my city, in the Big Apple. Nadia and Alessandro have developed this decision last year in front of a tiramisù in a restaurant in Rome. When Alessandro obtained the admission to the MBA master at the Columbia University, they both decided to open a bar in NY entirerly dedicated to this dessert, not only in its classic version, but experimenting with endless combinations. The main flavors are in fact six and include fruit, liquor, chocolate, coffee ... But it is also possible to "build" your own tiramisù: choosing between different ingredients everyone can experiment and choose the preferred combination. Plus, you can accompany the dessert with a true italian espresso (finally a good one in NY!).

FOCUS ON: Who's on next 2011

In un periodo in cui si parla molto della scarsa occupazione giovanile, della difficoltà dei giovani ad emergere (soprattutto in un settore come quello della moda), volevo dare risalto ad una manifestazione che ha lo scopo di scoprire e lanciare il talento giovanile. Si tratta di Who's on next, concorso di fashion scouting ideato e organizzato da AltaRoma in collaborazione con Vogue Italia, per la ricerca di nuovi talenti. A palazzo Morando in via Sant'Andrea (sede espositiva voluta dall'Assessorato alla Cultura di Milano e dedicata al costume, alla moda e all'immagine), sono state esposte le creazioni dei dieci finalisti del concorso e, ovviamente, quelle dei vincitori:

In a time when people are talking about the lack of youth employment and the difficulty for young people to emerge (especially in an industry like fashion), I wanted to highlight an event that aims to discover and launch young talents. It's called Who's on next, a fashion scouting contest conceived and organized by AltaRoma in collaboration with Vogue Italia, to look for new talents. At the Morando palace in Via Sant'Andrea (place desired by the Culture of Milan, and dedicated to costume, fashion and image), were exposed the creations of the contest's finalists and of course, those of the winners:

Alcune foto scattate la settimana scorsa a New York durante la Vogue Fashion Night Out. La Big Apple era piena di eventi e celebrities. Una di queste era Anna Dello Russo ospite (insieme alla top model Karolina Kurkova) dei grandi magazzini Macy's. La serata è stata divertente ma incasinatissima, soprattutto a Soho.

Some pictures taken last week in New York during the Vogue Fashion Night Out. The Big Apple was full of events and celebrities. One of these was Anna Dello Russo (along with supermodel Karolina Kurkova) at Macy's. The evening was fun, but messy, especially in Soho.

Cartoline Salentine. Part 1

Piccolo recap del nostro viaggio in Puglia.

Dodici giorni: mare, sole, aperitivi sulla spiaggia, lunghi viaggi in auto, cene con nuovi amici, feste tutta la notte...  Poi Taranto, Martina Franca, Ostuni, Lecce (davvero splendida con la sua architettura barocca) e Gallipoli,  la cui parte vecchia, che si trova su una piccola isola, è sicuramente molto suggestiva con le sue innumerevoli chiese e case di pescatori, i locali all'aperto e i ristoranti.

Non siamo riusciti ad andare ad AlberoBello, Santa Maria di Leuca e non sono riuscito a conoscere una delle mie blogger preferite, Gala. Ma ci saranno sicuramente altre occasioni. ;D

A little recap of our trip to Puglia.

Twelve days: sea, sun, drinks on the beach, long car trips, dinners with new friends, parties all night long... Then Taranto, Martina Franca, Ostuni, Lecce (really beautiful with its Baroque architecture) and Gallipoli, where the old part, which is located on a small island, is definitely very impressive with its many churches and  fishermen's homes, the bars and the outdoor restaurants.

We were not able to go to Alberobello, Santa Maria di Leuca and I was not able to meet one of my favorite bloggers, Gala. But surely there will be other occasions. ;D

Del resto non indosso la giacca molto spesso, e visto che Scott Schuman di The Sartorialist non c'era ho deciso di fare tutto da solo. L'influenza Ferragni inizia a farsi sentire... :S

Brianza week-end for the wedding of my friend Silvia... What better occasion to take some pictures? Besides, I don't wear the jacket so often, Scott Schuman from The Sartorialist wasn't there, so I  decided to do all by myself. Chiara Ferragni's influence begins to be felt ... :S

Settimana scorsa siamo riusciti ad organizzare una sfilata per celebrare l'inizio dei saldi. Abbiamo deciso di allestire la passerella in strada, proprio nella via in cui si trova il negozio dei miei genitori. Modelle per una notte: amiche e clienti. Moda, musica, divertimento, qualche imprevisto, isterismi e nevrosi (urla comprese).

Questa è la vera democratizzazione della moda! ;D

Last week we were able to organize a show to celebrate the Sales' beginning. We decided to set up the runway on the road, right in the street where there's my parents' shop. Models for the night: friends and customers. Fashion, music, fun, something unexpected, hysteria and neuroses (screams included).

This is the true democratization of fashion! ;D

ICONIC BAG: Birkin Hermès

La borsa icona cui mi riferisco è ovviamente la Birkin di Hermès, nata nel 1984 (il mio stesso anno di nascita; e non è un caso, tra icone ci si intende... ahahah xD). La leggenda narra che un'attrice francese (Jane Birkin), si trovasse su un volo Parigi-Londra, su cui viaggiava anche l'allora direttore creativo della Maison, Jean Luis Dumas. A Jane Birkin caddero dei fogli dalla borsa (una Kelly di Hermès, diventata l'altra borsa-icona della Maison grazie alla Principessa di Monaco che, in una celebre fotografia, la teneva stretta vicino alla pancia per non far vedere che era incinta), e Dumas l'aiutò a raccoglierli.  L'attrice si lamentò con lui di non riuscire a trovare una borsa che fosse allo stesso tempo femminile e pratica. Descrisse così il suo ideale e Dumas ne realizzò un prototipo molto presto.

Realizzata interamente a mano dagli artigiani della maison, la celebre Birkin richiede circa venti ore di lavorazione ed è oggi disponibile in quattro misure: 25 cm, 30 cm, 35 cm, 40 cm (quella di 45 cm è disponibile solo rossa). Preziosi i materiali (dalla pelle al coccodrillo) e infinita la gamma colori tra cui Red Suede, Beige Rose, Vert Chartreuse, Vert Anis, Red Ostich, Brique e Brown.

The iconic bag which I refer to is of course the Hermès Birkin , born in 1984. The legend says that a French actress (Jane Birkin), was on a Paris-London flight, and was traveling with Jean-Luis Dumas, the creative director of the French Maison that time. Some sheets fell out from her bag (the Hermès "Kelly", the other icon-bag of the Maison, so called because it become famous thanks to a famous picture where Princess Grace of Monaco was  helding it  tight around the belly, trying to avoid rumors that she was pregnant), and Dumas helped her collect them. The actress complained to him about not being able to find a bag that was both feminine and practical. He described his ideal, and Dumas created a prototype very soon.

Made entirely by hand by artisans of the house, the famous Birkin takes about twenty hours of work and today is available in four sizes: 25 cm, 30 cm, 35 cm, 40 cm (45 cm that is available only red). Precious materials (from leather to crocodile) and an infinite range of colors including Red Suede, Beige Rose, Vert Chartreuse, Vert Anis, Red Ostich, Brique and Brown.

BETTER NOT TO KNOW

Lo so, sto trascurando il blog, ma il pensiero che settimana prossima mi laureo mi fa venire i brividi... Diciamo che sono un po' stressato ultimamente...

I know, I'm neglecting the blog, but the thought that next week I will graduate gives me the chills ... Let's say I'm a little stressed out lately ...

Sono giorni che non dormo...

I'm not sleeping at all...

    

So che prima di entrare in aula avrò sicuramente un calo di zuccheri e mi sentirò svenire...

I know that before entering the classroom I will definitely have a low blood sugar and I will feel faint...

Se non saprò rispondere alle domande della Commissione mi sentirò come Munch davanti ad un tramonto: "I miei amici continuavano a camminare e io tremavo ancora di paura e sentivo che un grande urlo infinito pervadeva la natura."...

If I won't answer questions of the Commission, I will feel like Munch in front of a sunset: "My friends kept walking and I was still trembling with fear and I felt a great infinite scream pervading nature."...

Se poi non raggiungerò l'obiettivo o ci saranno imprevisti mi metterò semplicemente a piangere...

If I won't reach the goal or there will be an unforeseen I will simply cry...

(o insulterò qualcuno, devo ancora decidere...)...

(or I will insult someone, I still have to decide ...)...

L'unica conclusione a cui sono giunto è che forse è meglio non sapere...
